Matane occurs as city on the Gaspé Peninsula on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River at the mouth of the Matane River. A city is the seat for the Matane Regional County Municipality.
There is a ferry service which crosses the flow of any stream to Baie-Comeau and Godbout on the north shore.
A Matane vicinity is known for its shrimps. A Shrimp Festival, which utilized to exist as held around June, has disapeared 5 years ago because of the want of volunteers. A Matane flow of any stream is likewise known for salmon camping.
the title of the city is said to came from either a Mi'kmaq word meaning "beaver pond".
